Warwickshire have secured the services of seam-bowling all-rounder Aamer Jamal as an overseas player.

Aamer, who had an impressive start to his Test career towards the end of last year, will be at the club until the conclusion of the T20 Blast group stages.

He arrived in Birmingham on Thursday, 25th April, and is eager to be part of the squad for the County Championship match against Nottinghamshire, which begins on Friday, 26th April.

However, having not played a first-class match since early January, there is a possibility that he may have to wait until Warwickshire's next game on 10th May.

Aamer, who bowls at a fast-medium pace and is a dynamic batsman, will link up with his international teammate Hassan Ali, who is contracted until July, at Edgbaston. The duo recently participated in a training camp with the rest of the Pakistan squad.

Making his Test debut against Australia in Perth in mid-December, Aamer took 6 for 111 in his maiden innings. He performed even more impressively in Sydney, scoring 82 from No.9 in Pakistan's first innings and then taking 6 for 69 in Australia's first innings. Consequently, he was named the player of the match.

He made his international debut in a T20I against England in September 2022, delivering a composed final over to Moeen Ali to secure a win for Pakistan. He is not currently expected to be selected for Pakistan in the T20 World Cup or any preceding matches, although this could change if they experience a series of injuries.

Additionally, he has T20 experience with Comilla Victorians in the Bangladesh Premier League and Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League.

"He really captured the cricket world’s attention in Australia," Gavin Larsen, Warwickshire performance director, said. "He took the Aussies on with good pace, bounce, and a combative approach, all attributes you want in a fast bowler.

"Pat Cummins was named Player of the Series but you could have made a very strong argument for Jamal to have been awarded that title.

"When we found out Aamir was available we did our due diligence and made an offer. He’s jumping out of his skin to be on the park on Friday. He was on the same Pakistan training camp with Hassan so we know he’s fit and strong."
