LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to appoint a new chief curator with Australia’s Tony Hemming the leading contender for the role.
The PCB had issued an advertisement in search of the chief curator and applications were submitted till May 16.
According to sources, the new chief curator will be finalised in a day or two.
Hemming is a strong candidate to replace Agha Zahid, the current chief curator of Pakistan. Zahid started his career by joining the Chairman PCB Curators Committee in 2001. He was later appointed as the Chief Curator in 2004. He had resigned from this role back in 2020 but was reappointed by former PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja in 2021.
Tony Hemming is considered a great fit for this position because he has contributed as a chief curator at the Perth Stadium. He also has experience in building football grounds in Saudi Arabia. He is also the former Head Curator of the ICC Cricket Academy.
Before the Champions Trophy, Hemming will be responsible to finalise pitches at three grounds, which include Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi.
Hemming will also be responsible for training the curators of Pakistan and ground staff according to the latest requirements.
The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy will be the ninth-edition. This cricket tournament includes eight-top ranked international men’s national teams. This edition is set to be hosted by Pakistan in February and March.
