India’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah recovered from his injury recently and is now all geared up for the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup.
The right-armer carries a lot of importance for the team as they look to win their second ICC T20 World Cup, which is co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies.
Bumrah was out of action due to injury for a considerable period of time between 2022 and 2023 because of which the player missed some important events, including the T20 World Cup 2022. Nevertheless, he returned in August last year, and played India’s T20 series against Ireland.
Moreover, the star player played really well in the ODI World Cup 2023, he bagged 20 wickets with an average of 18.65.
Bumrah also came across a simple strategy that has helped him to make a comeback.
“Since I have come back from my injury, I have only focused on enjoying the game as much as I can,” Bumrah said.
“Because (certain) things will go my way. (Certain) things will not go my way.
“All of these things will be a part of my process. So, I have just realised that I started playing this sport. Because I love this sport.
“And I will focus on that rather than the end result. So, in that aspect you reduce your pressure. And you enjoy the sport.
“When you focus on those things. Rather than the things you cannot control,” star player added.
Bumrah is ranked third in India’s all time T20I wicket taker list with 74 wickets. His success in the format can be ascribed to a pinpoint yorker. Moreover, he mentioned that he came across the yorker while playing tennis-ball cricket in his childhood.
Despite being a senior-most pacer in the T20 World Cup squad, Jasprit has given space to the youngsters like Arshdeep Singh.
“You don't try to over-teach. That is something that I have learned,” Bumrah said. “Because whenever people need help, I let them have their own questions.
“Or if they need my help. Because you don't want to give too much information,” he said.
“It's not like they have just been lucky and they land here. So that is what I try to do. I do pass on certain information that I have gained over from my experience," he added.
Along with Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, and the USA, India are in Group A of the T20 World Cup 2024.
