WATCH: Alaves manager Luis Garcia Plaza loses his cool after Real Madrid score late winner

The win left Real Madrid on top of the league table on goal difference

Alaves looked set to secure a point at home to Real Madrid on Thursday evening but Lucas Vazquez scored in stoppage time to help the Whites top the La Liga table.

As soon as the goal went in, Alaves manager Luis Garcia Plaza went into full meltdown mode. He grabbed onto one of the members of his staff while also knocking over an ice cooler.

It must be noted that Carlo Ancelotti’s side were down to 10 men after Nacho Fernandez received a red card during the second half.

The win left Real Madrid on top of the league table on goal difference, equal on 45 points with surprise package Girona who played a 1-1 draw at Real Betis earlier on Thursday. Barcelona are at the third position with 38 points.

A toothless Real Madrid failed to create many clear-cut chances as they looked to be heading towards a dull goalless draw. But after losing Nacho, the Spanish giants improved their game and finally netted a goal when Toni Kroos lifted a corner to Vazquez who headed home from the crowded box.

In Seville, Artem Dovbyk´s first-half penalty, the Ukrainian's 11th goal of the season, looked to have Girona heading for a fourth straight win and ninth victory in their last 10 matches.

But German Pezzella, a World Cup winner with Argentina, levelled with two minutes to play as Betis extended their unbeaten run to 13 games — nine of which have been draws.

Girona, the club part-owned by the owners of Manchester City, dropped points for only the fourth time in 18 games this season.

Elsewhere, Real Mallorca beat Osasuna 3-2 for just their third win of the season, sending them five points clear of the relegation zone.
