British boxer Amir Khan, who has been retired for a while, still harbours hopes of facing Manny Pacquiao, a pursuit spanning many years.
He has now disclosed his thoughts on how this encounter might materialise in the current year.
Nearly a decade has passed since the welterweight division held the spotlight in boxing. Figures like Khan, Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, Danny Garcia, Keith Thurman, and others contributed to a flourishing weight class, featuring numerous closely contested battles.
Khan engaged in many memorable bouts, yet the two fighters he coveted the most, Mayweather and Pacquiao, eluded him. His last noteworthy fight took place against long-time rival Kell Brook in Manchester in February 2022, concluding with a knockout defeat for the Bolton native.
Despite being retired, Khan continues to invoke Pacquiao's name. The Filipino legend, now 37, has reportedly returned to training and is still pursuing a potential match. Khan recently conveyed this to SunSport, also revealing the key figure who could facilitate the realisation of the fight.
“I mean I am training a little bit here and there but the thing is the only man that can make that fight happen is Turki Alalshikh.
“I think Turki Alalshikh can make that fight happen between me and Manny Pacquiao. Yeah, that’s a fight that would definitely lift me up, for sure.”
He has not fought since a defeat to Yordenis Ugas in 2021, and the eight-division champion also fell short in his attempt to become president of his cherished homeland, the Philippines. Despite all the discussion, it appears that this ultimate bout for Khan may perpetually stay nothing more than a fantasy.
