Bangladesh and the Netherlands are vying for the second Super 8 spot from Group D in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

In Group D, South Africa have already secured their place in the Super 8, while Nepal and Sri Lanka have been eliminated. However, Bangladesh and the Netherlands are still competing for the remaining Super 8 spot.

The team that qualifies will join India, Australia, and Afghanistan in Group 1. Group 2 will feature South Africa, the West Indies, the USA and England.

Remaining Group D matches

Bangladesh v Nepal, Kingstown, June 17 (4:30pm PST)

Netherlands v Sri Lanka, Gros Islet, June 17 (5:30pm PST)

Qualification scenario – Bangladesh

A win, or even a washout, against Nepal will ensure Bangladesh's progress. Even if Nepal win by a narrow margin, Bangladesh should be alright unless the Netherlands give Sri Lanka a complete drubbing.

Qualification scenario – Netherlands

If Bangladesh suffer a significant defeat, the Netherlands must overcome Sri Lanka by an enormous margin to qualify. Naturally, the Dutch play after Bangladesh, giving them an advantage, but their qualification remains, at best, only mathematically possible.

The first match of the Super 8 will now be played between South Africa and the USA in Antigua and Barbuda on June 19. Meanwhile, the West Indies will play Scotland in St Lucia.

India and Afghanistan will play each other in their first match of Super 8 in Barbados while Australia will play the second team qualifying from Group D (Bangladesh or the Netherlands) in Antigua.
