Zaman Khan breaks Shadab Khan's T20 record

Right-arm pacer Zaman Khan has claimed Pakistan's T20 record for most wickets in a calendar year.

The 22-year-old, who is currently representing Sydney Thunders in season 13 of the Big Bash League, took his 62nd wicket of the year and went past leg-spinner Shadab Khan.

Shadab had taken 61 wickets last year. Former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood, ex-pacer Wahab Riaz and Haris Rauf are third in this list with 60 wickets.

Azhar bagged this record in 2013 with Wahab jointly claiming it in 2019. Haris took as many wickets in 2022.

Zaman, who has represented Pakistan in 6 T20Is, has been in great form at the BBL. He has six wickets to his name and today bagged Player of the Match for his 3/24 against Melbourne Stars.

He produced an absolute peach that was too hot to handle for the very experienced Glenn Maxwell.

After the Stars opted to bat first, Maxwell came out at No.4 and scored 30 runs with five fours. Just when the skipper was looking to tee off, Zaman pulled off a lethal Yorker to get rid of the hard-hitter.

Zaman bowled one full outside the off-stump and Maxwell tried to play him through the off side. But Maxwell was beaten all ends up and his stumps went for a walk.

Zaman was over the moon after getting rid of Maxwell, who could have done a lot of damage had he stayed long in the middle.

Zaman also got the wickets of Hilton Cartwright and Jonathan Merlo to finish with decent figures of 4-0-24-3.

Remember, Zaman also completed 100 wickets in T20 cricket in only his 79th match.
