Newcastle United’s star Joelinton’s house was invaded by intruders on Saturday night as reported by the police.
Law enforcement responded to the footballer's mansion on Runnymede Road in the affluent Darras Hall neighbourhood, Ponteland, shortly after 7:30 pm.
The midfielder's phone security detected three male intruders on Saturday, coinciding with Newcastle's 3-2 loss to Manchester City at St James' Park, leading him to promptly alert the police.
Fortunately, his family, including three children, was not at home during the incident. The intruders had fled by the time officers arrived at the property.
Police have issued a comprehensive statement on the ongoing investigation.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 7.30pm yesterday (Saturday) police received a call from a concerned homeowner who reported that three men were inside their home on Runnymede Road in Darras Hall.
“Thankfully the homeowner was not home but had received a security alert on their phone and immediately reported concerns to police.
“Police were deployed to the scene however, those alleged to be involved had fled the scene.
“Enquiries remain ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact us via 101, or the ‘Report’ pages of our website, quoting log NP-20240113-0835.”
Newcastle United said they will not be issuing a statement on the incident.
It must be noted that Man City made an excellent comeback at St James' Park courtesy of Kevin de Bruyne's brilliance as the Belgian changed the game as soon as he stepped inside the pitch.
Pep Guardiola's men were trailing 2-1 by the 69th minute, that's when de Bruyne was brought in and the Belgian did what he does best.
De Bruyne scored just five minutes after coming in as a substitute as he placed the ball brilliantly into the bottom-left corner and then set up Oscar Bobb with a world-class pass just minutes before the final whistle, who netted the ball after dribbling the hosts' goalkeeper.
Man City are second in the league, just two points off table-toppers Liverpool while Newcastle are 10th with 29 points and could fall to 11th if Wolves beat Brighton on Sunday.
