Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan is set to get a key role in the national T20I side as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to appoint him as the vice-captain, according to Geo News.

Rizwan was also the vice-captain when Shaheen Afridi was named the skipper last year.

However, the PCB delayed the announcement of vice-captain after reinstating Babar Azam as skipper of the white-ball team recently.

Rizwan has scored 2,981 runs in 91 T20Is for Pakistan at a strike-rate of 127.55.

The decision to appoint Rizwan, who is currently busy playing T20I series against New Zealand, as vice-captain could be announced soon.

Meanwhile, Pakistan squad for the upcoming T20I assignments against Ireland and England, along with the World Cup later this year, will be announced after the ongoing series against New Zealand.

According to sources, 17-18 members will be named in the squad for the upcoming matches.

The deadline for squad submission for T20 World Cup is May 1 but changes can be made till 25th of next month. After that, approval from the International Cricket Council (ICC) will be needed for any changes in the squad.

Before the series against Ireland, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is also likely to hold a brief camp for the national side.

Pakistan team will play three T20Is against Ireland and four against England away from home next month.

Pakistan squad will depart for the United States, ahead of the T20 World Cup, from England.

The coaching staff for Pakistan men’s team will also be announced after the conclusion of the series against New Zealand.
