Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated Mumbai Indians by four wickets in the 48th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the Ekana Sports City on Tuesday to go to the third position in the points table.

Marcus Stoinis was once again LSG’s MVP as the Australian all-rounder smashed 62 runs on 45 deliveries with the help of seven fours and two sixes and was ultimately named the Player of the Match.

Skipper KL Rahul was the second highest-scorer for the winning side as he played a calm and composed innings of 28 runs on 22 balls, as the target wasn’t too big to chase.

Nicholas Pooran stayed till the end and took his side over the line as they recorded their sixth win of the tournament.

Meanwhile, MI’s poor run continued as they tasted their seventh defeat in the ongoing tournament. Birthday boy Rohit Sharma failed to score big on his special day. Skipper Hardik Pandya, too, disappointed with the bat and was removed for a golden duck.

Rajasthan Royals remain first courtesy of their spectacular form in the tournament while Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) follow them with 12 points in nine matches.

It must be noted that Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are the joint-most successful teams in the history of IPL as both sides have won the tournament five times each.

Other than these two, KKR won it twice, while Gujarat Titans, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals and Deccan Chargers managed to lift the title once each.

Despite having legendary shorter-format figures like Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, AB de Villiers, Jacques Kallis and others, Royal Challengers Bangalore never managed to win the title despite playing the final thrice in 2009, 2011 and 2016.
