Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is now the most successful T20I captain in history after his side defeated Ireland in the second T20I by seven wickets in Dublin.

The 29-year-old won the 45th match as skipper and overtook Brian Masaba of Uganda to break the record, who had 44 runs in 56 matches.

Most T20I wins as captain:

Babar Azam: 45 (78 matches)

Brian Masaba: 44 (56)

Asghar Afghan: 42 (52)

Eoin Morgan: 42 (72)

In the first T20I, Babar broke former Australian captain Aaron Finch's record for making the most appearances as captain. He has now led Pakistan in 78 games while Finch ended his tenure with 76 games.

It must be noted on the back of performances by Mohammad Rizwan, Fakhar Zaman and Azam Khan.

While talking in a post-match presentation, Babar revealed they planned to chase before the 18th over.

"I'm relieved, credit to all batters. After bowling, we decided to chase before the 18th over. We lost a few wickets early on but we kept the momentum going," he said.

"It was a good decision (to bowl) because it was overcast and there was a bit of rain. Bowling in the second half was good but the way Ireland played the last three overs, all credit to them," he added.

"Fakhar is very experienced and played according to the situation which demanded positive intent. It's a good side, we got positives in this match and will look to give 100% in the next match. Very excited to see Pakistan fans, it was jam-packed, enjoyed the vibe and hope families will come to support us in the next match," he concluded.

The series decider will be held at the same venue on April 14.
