Geo News won the Intermedia Welcome T20 World Cup after beating ARY News in the final by eight runs at the Eastern Star Cricket Ground in Karachi.

ARY and GEO locked horns in the final of the tournament which was hosted by Sindh Youth Sports and DR Pakistan.

Geo batted first and managed to post 168 runs in the allocated overs after losing just four wickets. Azhar Ishaq top-scored for the winning side by scoring 51 runs with the help of six sixes on 33 balls.

Meanwhile, Geo’s skipper Jaffar Hussain scored 48 while Mohammad Imad contributed 36 runs, which guided the winning side to a 168-run total.

The ARY side gave their best during the chase with Mohammad Atiq playing a valiant knock of 85 runs courtesy of 13 boundaries, on just 49 balls, but his efforts went in vain as they couldn’t chase the target.

Imad sent two ARY batters back to the pavilion, after scoring 36 runs with the bat, and was named the Player of the Match.

After the match, the Director General Karachi Development Authority (KDA) Syed Shujaat Hussain, former DG KDA Naveed Anwar Siddiqui, RCA Zone Two President Jameel Ahmad, DR Pakistan Head Mohammad Rizwan, Sindh Youth Sports (SYS) Chief Organizer Asghar Azim, Sports Organizer Mohammad Naseem, Director Media KDA Akram Sattar and Senior Sports Journalists Anees ur Rehman distributed prizes among the players.

DG KDA, Syed Shujaat Hussain, acknowledged the importance of journalists playing together at a sporting event and said that it is important to understand the importance of sports.

“It is a good initiative for journalists to play by themselves, like media houses, other private institutions should also form their teams, it is important to be associated with sports to understand the rules of a healthy life,” he said.

While answering another question, he said: “The governing body has approved the policy of "adopting" KDA grounds. Due to the difficult financial situation, with the support of Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, KDA has adopted sports grounds for various community sports organisations and important personalities. It has been decided to provide those who can maintain these grounds on a non-commercial basis.”
