Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti was visibly frustrated after his side conceded a late equaliser against Atletico Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday.

Los Blancos suffered in aerial duels throughout the match as Atletico came close to scoring from headers and finally did just a minute before the final whistle as right-back Marcos Llorente put the ball on the back of the net.

Ancelotti highlighted Ateltico’s aerial advantage over them as Real Madrid were forced to play Dani Carvajal as a centre-back due to Antonio Rudiger and Aurelien Tchouameni’s absence.

“I think it was a very good match on our part, controlled well, we were unlucky to concede in the last minute. We lacked some height there, we were going to suffer there, but we did well. They deserved to win, we have won many games in the last minute, we cannot blame ourselves for anything,” Ancelotti said.

“It was a special game, two players who could be centre-backs were injured. The next game we will have both of them.”

As per a report from Diario AS, Ancelotti urged the club to sign a defender first at the start of the season when Eder Militao injured his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL), then again in January when David Alaba suffered the same fate as the Brazilian.

However, the club didn’t pay much attention to the Italian’s request and continued their stance that they are saving money for big arrivals like Kylian Mbappe or Alphonso Davies.

Los Blancos dropped two crucial points and now they face in-form Girona, who sits second in La Liga points table just two points behind Ancelotti’s men.

The two sides will go head-to-head in a potential title decider at the Santiago Bernabeu on February 10. While the return of Tchouameni and Rudiger will be a great confidence booster for Ancelotti, his troops would need to be at their 100% to overcome Girona, just like they did earlier in the season.
