Real Madrid cannot catch a break with setbacks as left-back Fran Garcia suffered an ankle injury during a training session and is a doubt for the derby against Atletico Madrid, reported AS on Sunday.
The Spaniard suffered a blow to his left ankle just before the end of the training session and his participation in the derby has become a doubt.
As per the report, Garcia’s ankle swelled considerably and he was attended by the club’s medical staff who put a bandage on the affected area.
Garcia’s injury has increased problems for head coach Carlo Ancelotti, who is already short on defensive players.
Two of Real Madrid’s centre-backs, Eder Militao and David Alaba, tore their Anterior Crucial Ligament (ACL) earlier this season and are unavailable.
Their third fit centre-back, Antonio Rudiger suffered a knock on his thigh during the first half against Getafe. The German tackled to win the ball against Mason Greenwood but ended up hitting his thigh to the opponent’s knee and was ultimately substituted.
Rudiger didn’t train with the team on Saturday as he was in “unbearable” pain, making his chances to appear in the derby very thin.
It was reported that Dani Carvajal is the strongest candidate to partner with Nacho Fernandez during the Madrid derby.
If due to unforeseen circumstances Carvajal couldn’t play as the centre-back, Ancelotti will turn to Ferland Mendy and Eduardo Camavinga to play at the position.
The Whites’ defensive midfielder, Aurelien Tchouameni was booked during Los Blancos’ 2-0 victory over Getafe and was ruled out of the next match following his fifth suspension in the league.
Real Madrid appealed to overturn the suspension of the Frenchman but their request was denied.
