The record for the fastest-ever men’s T20I century was broken on Monday when Sahil Chauhan of Estonia played an extraordinary innings against Cyprus.

The 32-year-old Chauhan scored an unbeaten 144 off just 41 deliveries, enabling his Estonian team to chase down Cyprus' 191/7 in spectacular fashion.

Namibia's Jan-Nicol Loftie Eaton previously held the record for the quickest T20I century, achieved off just 33 balls four months ago.

This was also the fastest century in all T20s, surpassing Chris Gayle's 30-ball century in the IPL 2013.

Batting at number four, Chauhan struck 24 boundaries in his innings, including 18 sixes, scoring at a strike rate of 351.21 as he dismantled the Cyprus bowling attack.

Chauhan’s 18 sixes set a new Men's T20I record for a single innings in the format. Afghanistan’s Hazratullah Zazai and New Zealand’s Finn Allen previously held the record with 16 each.

Estonia now lead the six-match series in Cyrpus 2-0, having chased down a target of 196 in the opening match of Monday’s double-header with three balls and five wickets remaining.

However, on that against Chauhan could not have had a more contrasting impact with the bat, dismissed for a golden duck.

The series continues with another double-header on Tuesday 18 June in Episkopi
