Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have asked for clarification from bowling coach Allan Donald over his remarks on Angelo Mathews' timed-out dismissal during the 38th match of the ICC World Cup 2023 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, India, on November 6.
Mathews became the first player in history to be timed out as he was ready to take strike when the strap of his helmet broke. The former Sri Lanka captain called for a new helmet and while that wait ensued, Shakib Al Hasan appealed with the umpires consequently ruling the batter timed out.
Donald was not content with Shakib's position on this incident and called him out publicly. The BCB has now decided to ask for a clarification from their bowling coach.
"He could have given his personal views at a later time. He is part of the team management so when the team takes a decision, speaking about it publicly is a breach of the code of conduct. He could have spoken about it within the team or he could have spoken directly to the player. He could have informed the BCB, but not in public," BCB said.
However, they are unlikely to take any action against Donald as this is his last assignment with the Bangladesh cricket team.
Earlier in an interview, Donald confirmed that he didn't approve of Shakib's action saying that Bangladesh don't stand for such things.
"It was disappointing to see. I can understand Shakib taking his chance. His words were 'I was doing everything to win'. You can sense in my voice that I don't like it. My immediate reaction when that happened - and this is just [that] my instincts would have taken over - is I almost actually thought of going on that field and saying, 'enough is enough, we don't stand for this; we are not that kind of team who stand for this'. That was my immediate thought," Donald said.
