Chelsea captain Reece James lashed out at negative comments after undergoing surgery in order to solve his recurring hamstring injuries.
James limped off in the first half of Chelsea’s 2-0 loss at the hands of Everton last week.
This is the third time James has suffered a serious hamstring injury within the last 12 months, which led to abusive messages from fans towards the England full-back.
“The footballing world knew I got injured but the procedure I would go down this time took slightly longer to figure out the best solution,” James posted on Instagram.
“I had surgery today to try fix my reoccurring hamstring issue, the recovery has started, both physically and mentally.
“Since this injury I’ve had a good amount of support but significantly more hate and negativity. Believe me I don’t wanna be injured, I’m happiest when I’m playing football.
“Thanks to the understanding people that support me despite the highs or the lows, it goes a long way. Stay well, Reece.”
James will be on the sidelines for a significant period of time after already missing two months of action following an injury in August. He also missed part of last season due to the hamstring injury.
The England international also missed the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after suffering knee ligament injury.
James has only featured in nine match this season and was sent off in November's loss at Newcastle.
