Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will step down as the head coach at the end of the current season and multiple news outlets have already linked him to FC Barcelona.
Barcelona will be without a manager once the season ends as Xavi Hernandez confirmed in January that he would quit the club once the current season ends.
While Klopp hinted that he would take a break from coaching after handling the demanding Liverpool job for almost nine years, sources from Spain and England already linked him to the Barcelona job.
Barcelona director Deco discussed the possibility of Klopp coaching the club. Although he didn’t confirm any contact with the 56-year-old, he also refused to rule the German out of contention.
“Klopp is a top coach, but I don’t think this is the moment to speak about it,” Deco told La Vanguardia, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano. “We have many options; the future head coach will be discussed later.”
Remember, despite winning the league last season, Xavi was under hot waters due to the concerning display of the team for a few months.
Barca were knocked out of the Spanish Super Cup after losing to arch-rivals Real Madrid 4-1, and in the same month, they lost to Athletic Club which ended their Copa del Rey campaign.
However, losing 5-3 to Villarreal in a league match was the last straw after which Xavi held a presser confirming that he would quit on June 30.
"From June 30, I will not continue as Barca coach. As a Barca fan, I believe the club needs a change of dynamic," Xavi said in a post-match press conference.
"I've been a man of the club. I've prioritised it above even myself. I've given everything I have. And I will continue to do so to make the fans feel proud."
Remember, Xavi arrived in Barcelona in November 2021 to take charge of the club after the previous manager Ronald Koeman was sacked.
Barcelona are still alive in two competitions, La Liga and the Champions League, Xavi can still say goodbye to the club of his life with silverware this season, although, with the way things are going, it seems very unlikely.
He helped the club win their first La Liga title since 2019 in 2023, after beating Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid and Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid in the title race.
