Australia announced their squad for the white-ball tour to the United Kingdom (UK) tour which is set to take place in September and their ODI skipper, Pat Cummins, was left out.
Australia, the World Champions, will play ODI and T20I matches against England and T20Is against Scotland in September and some new names will be in action during the series.
David Warner retired from all formats after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2024 and Jake Fraser-McGurk has been named in Australia’s both ODI and T20Is squad and he looks like the long-term replacement of the former opener.
Fraser-McGurk has already played two ODIs on home soil when West Indies visited Australia earlier this year but is yet to make his T20I debut. He was part of T20 World Cup squad as a travelling reserve but did not play.
Cooper Connolly got his maiden call-up after an impressive Big Bash League (BBL) season with Perth Scorchers where he scored 150 runs at a strike rate of 144 while batting at number six.
“This tour gives us a great opportunity to bring in some new players in the absence of David Warner and Matthew Wade, as well as giving some senior players time to prepare for the home summer and a busy first half of next year,” Men's selection chair George Bailey said as quoted by Cricket Australia (CA).
"We are particularly pleased to offer Cooper his first opportunity in the T20 squad having introduced the likes of Jake, Spencer, Xavier and Aaron in the past 12 months. They are exciting prospects to join the likes of Cameron Green, Nathan Ellis and Josh Inglis in the white-ball setup."
