La Liga leaders Real Madrid endured a frustrating 1-1 draw against neighbours Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.
It was a hard-fought point for Vallecano, with a first-half equaliser from Raul de Tomas and solid defensive play in the second half ensuring they maintain distance from the relegation zone.
For Real Madrid, the result meant more than just dropping a point. The club struggled to break the opposition defence and, more importantly, lost Dani Carvajal to a red card.
Carvajal was sent off late in the game after receiving a second yellow card. He was booked for aggressively shrugging off Kike Perez.
Carvajal’s red card means he will not be available for Real Madrid in their next league game against Sevilla on Sunday.
Carvajal is not the only Real Madrid player ruled out against Sevilla due to suspension. The Spaniard is joined by Eduardo Camavinga on the list of suspended players for Los Blancos.
While Carvajal was sent off for two yellow cards in just 20 minutes against Rayo Vallecano, Camavinga was heading into the game with a suspension scare.
The midfielder had accumulated four yellow cards in La Liga prior to the match. As one would guess, the youngster picked up a rather unnecessary yellow card against Rayo around the hour mark for showing his frustration at the referee.
The booking means Camavinga will now join Carvajal on the sidelines as Real Madrid takes on Sevilla next weekend.
Los Blancos were without six players — Thibaut Courtois, Eder Militao, David Alaba, Antonio Rudiger, Ferland Mendy, and Jude Bellingham.
Courtois, Militao, and Alaba have long-term injuries, as all three players tore their Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) earlier this season. On the other hand, Rudiger suffered a bruise on his during Madrid’s league match against Getafe. Bellingham had an ankle sprain, while Mendy was suspended.
