Royal Challengers Bengaluru have climbed to the fifth spot in IPL 2024 points table after beating Delhi Capitals by runs at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
RCB made it five wins on the trot to keep their playoff hopes alive. The win means that RCB now have 12 points from 13 matches and their final league match against Chennai Super Kings can decide the fate for both teams.
IPL 2024 Points Table
RCB delivered a stellar performance in both bowling and fielding to secure a convincing victory.
Despite posting a modest total of 187 for 9, highlighted by a dynamic half-century from the in-form Rajat Patidar, RCB managed to restrict Delhi Capitals to a meagre 140 runs in 19.1 overs. Patidar, scoring 52 runs off 32 balls, partnered effectively with Will Jacks, who contributed 41 runs off 28 balls, to build a crucial 88-run stand for the third wicket in just under nine overs.
Yash Dayal, claiming figures of 3/20, and Cameron Green, with 1/19, demonstrated exceptional bowling prowess with their precise lengths, stifling the Delhi batters.
Apart from the stand-in skipper Axar Patel, who scored a commendable 57 runs off 39 balls, none of the Delhi batter managed to leave a significant impact on the game.
It must be noted Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are the joint-most successful teams in IPL history, with both sides clinching the title five times each.
Aside from these two, KKR has triumphed twice, while Gujarat Titans, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, and Deccan Chargers have each lifted the trophy once.
Despite boasting legendary figures in the shorter format such as Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, AB de Villiers, Jacques Kallis, and others, Royal Challengers Bangalore have yet to claim the title despite reaching the final thrice in 2009, 2011, and 2016.
