All four teams in Group 2 of the Super 8 are still in contention for the semi-finals for the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.
West Indies beat USA by a nine wickets on Saturday to ensure that there is all to play for in the final two games in Group 2.
United States will face England before West Indies’ clash against South Africa on Sunday to close out the Group 2 matches in Super 8.
Here are the semi-final qualification scenarios for Group 2
South Africa (4 points after 2 matches)
South Africa will have to beat West Indies in the final game to ensure qualification. If not, they will have to rely on England to not get past their net run-rate of 0.625. West Indies already have a superior net run-rate, 1.814, as compared with South Africa.
England (2 points after 2 matches)
England will have to beat USA with a huge margin to progress to the semi-finals since West Indies (1.814) have a much better net run-rate as compared with England (0.412). In order to avoid the net run-rate coming into the equation, England would want South Africa to beat West Indies in the other match.
West Indies (2 points after 2 matches)
West Indies cannot afford anything other than a win in their match against South Africa. If they lose, they will have to rely on USA beating England in order to qualify.
USA (0 points after 2 matches)
USA can also make it to the semis if South Africa beat West Indies and they get a massive win over England.
