Bangladesh are playing against India in their second match of the Super 8 round in the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua.

The Tigers had won the toss and opted to bowl first which made former English cricketer Michael Vaughan surprised.

Vaughan took to his X account (formerly Twitter) and expressed his shock on Bangladesh bowling first in a day game and opening with two spinners against Indian batters who play spin well.

He also added that Mustafizur Rahman should have been utilised early on in the innings. Vaughan wrote, “So Bangladesh win the toss & bowl in a day game! Open with two spinners against incredible players of spin. Don’t use the Fizz when both have struggled against left-arm seamers … how very very odd.”

Bangladesh’s Mahedi Hasan and veteran Shakib al Hasan bowled the opening overs of the innings. Mahedi and Shakib went on to bowl one more over each in the power-play. In his second over of the spell, Shakib took the wicket of India’s captain, Rohit Sharma who could score only 23 runs with three fours and one six.

Bangladesh’s bowlers have restricted India to a score of 196 at the loss of five wickets. Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Rishad Hossein took two wickets each. Shakib finished with a three-over spell where he took one wicket and gave away 37 runs.

India’s top scorer was Hardik Pandya who has been in a splendid form in the T20 World Cup 2024. Pandya scored a fifty on just 27 balls with four fours and three sixes. Bangladesh will need to win 197 runs to win to stay in the race for the semi-finals.

Bangladesh had lost their first Super 8 game against Australia by 28 runs through a DLS method. They had scored 140 runs and through the DLS method, Australia needed 73 runs to win but they had already scored 100 runs at the loss of two wickets in 11.2 overs.
