Manchester United's star forward Marcus Rashford emerged as one of the top transfer targets for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) this summer as the French club prepares for life after Kylian Mbappe.
With Mbappe poised to depart PSG as a free agent when his contract expires, likely joining Real Madrid, the French club is looking to move on from its 'Galactico' era.
The departure of the 25-year-old superstar, though significant, has left PSG indifferent, as they anticipate saving approximately £170 million annually by removing his salary from their books. This financial windfall is expected to be reinvested in finding his replacement.
The French club has long admired Rashford and held discussions with his brother and agent last summer. However, the English forward committed his future to Man Utd by signing a new five-year contract in July.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has expressed his admiration for Rashford in the past and hinted at the possibility of another approach.
Joining Rashford on PSG's list of potential targets are Napoli's Victor Osimhen and Barcelona's Gavi. Osimhen, the primary target, is likely to depart Napoli in the summer, given his £100 million-plus release clause.
As a traditional No.9, his signing would leave room for another addition on the left wing.
Gavi, who has been on PSG's radar for some time, received his senior debut at Barcelona under Xavi's predecessor Ronald Koeman.
With Xavi confirming his departure from Barcelona, the club may be compelled to offload some high earners due to La Liga's decision to reduce their salary cap by approximately £60 million.
While neither Rashford nor the Red Devils have indicated a willingness to entertain an offer from PSG, United manager Erik ten Hag has publicly stated his desire to retain Rashford's services for the foreseeable future.
