Emma Raducanu’s Grand Slam return was ended in the second round of the Australian Open by China's Wang Yafan on Thursday.

Britain's Raducanu, 21, was defeated 6-4 4-6 6-4 in only her fourth match back after wrist and ankle surgeries which kept her out for nearly nine months.

Raducanu was unwell at the beginning of the third set and had her blood pressure checked by a doctor.

No.94-ranked Wang qualified for the third round of a major for the first time, having been ousted in the second round on five previous occasions. She will next face Chinese compatriot Zheng Qinwen.

The defeats for Raducanu and Katie Boulter, who suffered defeat at the hands of Chinese 12th seed Zheng Qinwen 6-3, 6-3, mean there are no British players left in the women's singles.

Raducanu shocked the world at the Flushing Meadows in 2021 as she went all the way to winning the trophy as a qualifier but only on one other occasion has she qualified for the fourth round of a Grand Slam.

The 21-year-old had dropped to 299th in the world after an eight-month layoff with ankle and wrist injuries.

Raducanu, who has been criticised for making frequent changes to her coaching team, has once again joined hands with childhood coach Nick Cavaday.
