Sri Lanka are the first team from Group D to get eliminated from the T20 World Cup 2024.

Their elimination came after the Netherlands batted for a minimum of five overs against Bangladesh in the ongoing Group D game. This ensured there would be a result in the contest, meaning either the Netherlands or Bangladesh would reach four points while Sri Lanka can only get three points.

Sri Lanka, thus, have failed to make it to the final four of the T20 World Cup for the fourth straight edition. They last made the last four in 2014 when they ended up winning the trophy by beating India in the final.

The Lankans had a horrible competition where they lost to South Africa and Bangladesh while their game against Nepal was washed out. They have only one point and their last group game against the Netherlands on June 17.

Apart from Sri Lanka, Namibia and Oman are the two teams who are eliminated

Meanwhile, India, Australia, South Africa and West Indies are the four teams cementing place in the Super 8. They have been unbeaten so far in the competition after three games each.

Remember, Bangladesh defeated the Netherlands by 25 runs in their third match of the competition at the Arnos Vale Stadium, Kingstown.

Chasing the target, the Netherlands could only manage 134/8.

For Bangladesh, Rishad Hossain starred with the ball as he took three wickets, Taskin Ahmed got two while Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, and Mahmudullah picked one wickets each.

Earlier in the first innings, after being asked to bat first, Bangladesh didn’t have a great start as they lost two wickets inside the first four overs.

Shakib top-scored for the Tigers with 64 runs on 46 balls. Meanwhile, for the Netherlands, Aryan Dutt and Van Meekeren bagged two wickets each while Tim Pringle managed to get one.
